US: Man, Arrested For Beheading Father, Shared Head On YouTube

A 32-year-old American man was detained on Tuesday after it was alleged that he had beheaded his father and had posted a violent video in which he appeared to be holding up his head while going on a divisive tirade. The footage reportedly went viral on YouTube for hours before being removed. Shortly after he was accused of killing his 68-year-old father, Michael Mohn, at their Pennsylvania home, Justin Mohn was placed under arrest. The 32-year-old is charged with first-degree murder, abusing a corpse, and intentionally possessing a weapon of crime. He is being held without bond.

It is reported that a “call of a deceased male” drove police to arrive at the spot. Denice Mohn, the mother of Justin Mohn, discovered her husband’s headless body in their house and immediately dialled 911. She claimed to have left the house at 2:00 pm and found her son’s and her husband’s 2009 Toyota Corolla missing when she returned.

“The call to emergency dispatchers came from the victim’s wife. When officers arrived, they located the male deceased in the bathroom,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. “The victim’s adult son was not present when police arrived and left the area in his father’s vehicle,” the statement added.

In the bathroom, police discovered a machete and a big kitchen knife. In a first-floor bedroom next to the bathroom, they found Michael Mohn’s head inside a plastic bag inside a cooking pot. In addition, officers discovered “bloody rubber gloves” in a trashcan next to a desk and a different first-floor bedroom.

The 32-year-old released a video on YouTube, which the police reference in the affidavit. In the video, the man introduces himself as Justin Mohn reads from a written statement, and occasionally holds up what looks to be a bloody head wrapped in a transparent plastic bag.

A YouTube spokesperson said, “it has strict policies prohibiting graphic violence and violent extremism”. “The video was removed for violating our graphic violence policy and Justin Mohn’s channel was terminated in line with our violent extremism policies. Our teams are closely tracking to remove any re-uploads of the video,” they said.

“More than 100 miles from his residence, in Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, the 32-year-old was discovered hours later and put into custody. He was armed at the time but did not resist arrest,” police said. On Wednesday morning, he was videotaped to be charged. He was ordered to be jailed without bond by a judge. The date of his next hearing is February 8.
