Goaโ€™s MGNREGA Rates Rise By Rs 34; UP, Uttarakhand By Rs 7

On Wednesday, the Centre announced updated wage rates for unskilled manual labourers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for the fiscal year 2024-2025. Goa experiences the largest increase of 10.56%, while Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand see the smallest rise of 3.04% each. These revised rates, specified by the Ministry of Rural Development, will come into effect from April 1, 2024. The highest daily wage rate of Rs 374 is set for Haryana, with the lowest rate of Rs 234 designated for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

Centre Extends AFSPA Status In 8 Nagaland Districts

The Centre has extended the application of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958, across eight districts and 20 police station limits in Nagaland, maintaining their classification as โ€œdisturbed areasโ€ until September 30, 2024. This extension encompasses Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, and Peren districts. Additionally, 20 police stations within Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng, Wokha, and Zunheboto districts have also been designated as โ€œdisturbed areasโ€ under Section 3 of AFSPA.
