Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday moved a bill in the state assembly proposing to amend the MaharashtraElectricity Duty Act, 2016 to waive electricity duty for metro rail as well as monorail. The bill is necessitated as the metro rail operations are highly energy intensive in nature.
However, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation, which incurs huge expenses on electricity duty and consumption charges on consumption of electricity for such operations, has urged the state government to waive the electricity duty on the lines of waiving off electricity duty in case of Delhi Metro Rail.
