After Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was allegedly pursued by the former PM’s followers in Saudi Arabia’s Madina last Thursday, a blasphemy complaint was filed in Faisalabad against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf head Imran Khan and others.
According to media sources, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has promised that Imran Khan will be detained in a case involving “hooliganism and sloganeering against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation visiting Madina.”
Sheikh Rashid, the former interior minister, and Shahbaz Gill, Imran Khan’s chief of staff, have all been identified as defendants in the case.
Back Ground
Pilgrims supposedly supporting Imran Khan screamed ‘chor’ (thief) and ‘gaddar’ (traitor) as soon as Shehbaz Sharif and other members of his team arrived at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madina last Thursday, according to video clips shared on social media.
The Pakistani pilgrims are also accused of using derogatory comments toward the delegation. Five Pakistanis participating in the sloganeering have been arrested, according to the Madina police.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan distanced himself from the pilgrims in a Saturday TV appearance, saying he could “not even conceive asking someone to carry out sloganeering at the sacred location.”
