ICJ to resume hearing in Kulbhushan Jadhav case, will decide the future course of action in it

The ICJ (International Court of Justice) will resume the hearing, to take a decision on as to what will be the future course of action in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case who has been awarded a death sentence by a military court in Pakistan since both the countries have made their proposals before it.

India in the month of September last year had submitted its written pleas to the International Court of Justice in Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case.

Pakistan, on the other hand, countering the submission, in the month of December, had rejected India’s plea for giving consular access to Jadhav, asserting that the New Delhi wants the access so as to gather the information that has been garnered by its “spy”.

Raveesh Kumar, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said, “The submissions have been made by both the sides. The decision on the future course of action is to be taken by the International Court of Justice. Are they going to ask for further submissions or are we moving towards a decision-making process? That is something the ICJ is supposed to decide,” in response to a question on the status of the case.

It was on 8 May in the year 2017 that India had moved the ICJ for starting the proceedings against Pakistan for the violations of the Vienna Convention in the matter of Jadhav’s trial and custody and had requested immediate suspension of the death sentence that was awarded to the accused.
