“There Has Been No Recent Contact Between PM Modi And US President Trump,” Says Government Source

Sources said US President Trump and PM Modi shared the last conversation on 4 April 2020 on the subject of Hydroxychloroquine

 

WASHINGTON| US President Donald Trump has offered to mediate on the border between India and China. Trump said he spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is not in a “good mood” over the “big conflict” between the two countries.

Addressing a meet in the oval office of White House on Thursday, Trump said a “big conflict” was going on between India and China.

Trump said, “They like me in India. I think they like me in India more than the media likes me in this country. And, I like Modi. I like your prime minister a lot. He is a great gentleman.”

When Trump was questioned about is he worried about the border situation between India and China, He replied, “They have a big conflict in India and China. Two countries with 1.4 billion people (each). Two countries with very powerful militaries. India is not happy and probably China is not happy.”

Trump further added, “I can tell you, I did speak to Prime Minister Modi. He is not in a good mood about what is going on with China.” Trump through his twitter account offers to mediate between the two nations. He tweeted, “ready, willing and able to mediate” between the two countries.

Following the reports, the close sources revealed, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump did not share any conversation regarding this topic. The last conversation they had was on 4 April 2020 on the subject of Hydroxychloroquine. India day after made it clear that they are in direct contact with China through mechanisms and diplomatic.

 

 

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, “The two sides have established mechanisms both at military and diplomatic levels to resolve situations which may arise in border areas peacefully through dialogue and continue to remain engaged through these channels.”

Trump previously also offered to mediate between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue, a proposal that was rejected by New Delhi.
