Peshawar: Police on Sunday, said that two Sikhs were killed near the outskirts of Peshawar. They were killed after unidentified assailants opened fire on them.
Peshawar Capital City Police Office Ijaz Khan in a statement said, “The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Sarband police station.”
The victims have been identified as 42-year-old Suljeet Singh and 38-year-old Ranjeet Singh. They owned a spice shops in Batatal locality.
After receiving the news the police immediately reached the spot. Police shifted the bodies to the hospital for an autopsy, Khan said. He further added that officials were also collecting evidence from the scene of the crime.
“CCTV cameras from surrounding areas are also being checked,” he said. He further said that a search operation had been launched in the area to nab the suspects who managed to escape.
“Those involved in the incident will soon be unmasked,” the officer stated. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan took notice of the incident and order the KP Inspector General of Police to arrest the perpetrators. He further added that it was an attempt to disturb the law and order in Peshawar.
The incident was strongly condemned by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
In a statement, PM Shehbaz asked the Chief Minister ensure that appropriate steps are taken for safety of the lives and the property of citizens, especially minorities.
He also directed the KP CM to ensure that the suspects are arrested and punished for their sin.
He held “Pakistan’s enemies” responsible for the incident and vowed to “eradicate them from the face of the earth”. He also assured the victims’ families of the federal government’s full cooperation in arresting the suspects.
Bilawal has called for the arrest of the culprits. He said in a statement, “No one will be allowed to disturb inter-faith harmony in the country and harm national unity.” He added that the PPP was the country’s real representative party and would not abandon the Sikh community.
