Switching sides, forming new equations have been the highlight of the politics of Bihar since the Lok Sabha elections. Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) contested the assembly polls with Lalu Yadav’s RJD but later switched his sides and joined hands with BJP. BJP’s alliance partner Upendra Kushwaha left the National Democratic Alliance on the issue of seat sharing and joined the Congress-RJD’s grand alliance.
Out of the 40 seats in Bihar, BJP and JDU contested on 17 seats each while Ram Vilas Paswan’s LJP contested on the remaining 6 seats. While out of the 40 seats, Lalu Yadav’s RJD contested on 19 seats, Congress on 9 seats, Upendra Kushwaha’s RLSP contested on 5 seats while Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM and Vikasheel Insan Party contested on 3 seats each. CPI(ML) also a part of the grand alliance is also contesting on 1 seat.
Polling for the 40 assembly seats were held in all the 7 phases. The high-profile candidates contesting in Bihar include Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Chirag Paswan, Shatrughan Sinha, JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar.
According to the Politicians Poll conducted by HW NEWS, the competition is tough for both the alliance in Bihar. NDA is likely to get 20 seats in Bihar with JDU getting 11 seats and BJP winning 8 seats. UPA is just a seat behind its rival getting 19 seats in Bihar which includes Congress’ 6 and RJD and its allies’ 13 seats. Others is likely to emerge victorious in 1 seat.
