Mumbai: As summer is at peak, ‘lemons’ used in most of the refreshment drinks has joined the elite club of petrol, diesel, and LPG. Lemon is currently costing from Rs. 280 to Rs. 350 per kg nationwide. Consumption of lemons has increased in summer, but due to price rise, it is becoming out of reach for the common man. The prices of lemon have reached the sky, prompting people on social media have come up with memes on price hike.
The Congress on Friday launched an attacked on the Centre over the rising costs of lemon along with other essential commodities, including LPG, petrol and diesel, and said this summer the ‘Mehngai wave’ will overtake the heat wave.
Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said, “Lemon (Nimbu) prices cross Rs 300 & Green Chillies now cost more than Fuel-Hope FM drinks nimbu pani & consumes chilies unlike onion to realise the impact of price rise!! BJP Govt manufactured ‘Mehngai Wave” will be more brutal than Heat Wave this summer !!” he said.
