Anti-corruption movement 2.0: Anna Hazare to begin his indefinite hunger strike today

Anna Hazare will begin his protest at the iconic Ram Lila Maidan from where he had started the Anti-corruption movement that led to dethroning of UPA government.

Almost eight years after his historic movement that steered India’s biggest Anti-corruption movement Anna Hazare is set to repeat the history once again. Starting from today, the social activist Anna Hazare will go on indefinite hunger strike against the present Modi government.

He will begin his protest at the iconic Ram Lila Maidan from where he had started the Anti-corruption movement that led to dethroning of UPA government. Anna Hazare then was demanding the government bring in force a Lokpal act to investigate the corruption cases. The demand of Anna will be the same this time however, the target will be the present day government who he feels has not done anything to bring in force the Lokpal act.

Since the Modi government took over the power in the year 2014, Anna Hazare has been pressing for the appointments of the Lokayuktas and implementation of Swaminathan Committee to address the glaring agriculture crisis in India. According to Anna’s close aide, he will first visit Rajghat and pay tribute at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial. He will then march to Shaheedi park and then to Ram Lila Maidan. The close aide also mentioned that the date of the hunger strike was chosen keeping in mind that it was also the same day when Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged to death by the Britishers.

BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha too, expressed his solidarity with Anna Hazare calling him a great “Gandhian leader”. He also indicated towards turbulent times ahead for the Modi government
