BJP Suspends Councillor Arrested By CBI, Says “Zero Tolerance For Corruption”

BJP councillor Manoj Mehlawat from Vasant Kunj under South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), was arrested in connection with a ₹ 10 lakh bribery case.

On Friday, Adesh Gupta, the Delhi BJP president, suspended a municipal councillor from the party’s primary membership. The councillor was arrested by the CBI.

Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the Delhi BJP spokesperson, said: councillor Manoj Mahalawat was suspended from the primary membership of the party by Mr Gupta immediately after the preliminary inquiry report came in.

“The party has zero tolerance towards corruption,” he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

They said the councillor had allegedly demanded a bribe to allow construction of a house without any hindrance.

Officials informed that the arrested councillor was produced before a special court which sent him to judicial custody. The agency caught him red-handed, they further said.
