Mumbai | Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar confirmed that he is a Canadian citizen and said that he has never hidden or denied his Canadian passport.
The ‘Khiladi’ fame actor got into a controversy after he took a “non-political” interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speculations ran high as he was not seen voting on April 29 on Phase IV of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, which were also held in Mumbai among other cities.
His wife, Twinkle Khanna, was seen at the polling booth without him.
Akshay recently dismissed a reporter by simply smiling and telling the reporter, “Chaliye Beta,” before walking off when asked to react on his citizenship row.
In a statement issued on social media, he said, “I work in India and pay all my taxes in India”.
He also expressed his disappointment on the matter and said, “I find it disappointing that my citizen issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political and of no consequence to others”.
He also stated that he has not visited the country in the past seven years.
Akshay was last seen in period-war film Kesari and would be next seen in Good News.
