Centre Directs BSNL To Not Use Chinese Equipments For 4G Upgradation: Reports

According to India Today, the government will not give any new tenders for 4G to Chinese companies and fresh tenders will be withdrawn by BSNL.

New Delhi| The call for Boycotting China economically in light of the violent face-off at border is getting louder. According to a report published in India Today, the govt has taken first step towards it. The report states that the Central Government has directed the Department of Communications and the telecom companies BSNL and MTNL to stop the use of Chinese equipment for the implementation of 4G. The government has given orders to abolish all tenders in this regard and the process to withdraw new tenders will be started soon, the report said.

According to India Today, the government will not give any new tenders for 4G to Chinese companies and fresh tenders will be withdrawn. On May 31 this year, BSNL has cancelled the 4G tender of Rs 8697 crore. It has been considered a major step for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s self-reliant India campaign.

The report citing Telecom Ministry sources, said the Department of Communications is also seriously considering reducing the dependence on China in the field of mobile services. Thus, private companies in the telecom sector have also been asked to reduce their dependence on products made by Chinese companies. Reportedly, the security check of Chinese equipment can now be very strict. Chinese company Huawei and ZTE are in the dock and have faced allegations of spying on behalf of the Chinese government.

China has a huge investment in all the large mobile-internet companies in India. According to statistics, the market of telecom equipment is 12000 crores, in which the share of Chinese product is about 25 percent. People associated with this sector say that if Indian companies leave China and import from other countries, the cost will increase by 15 percent.
