Mumbai| The possible construction of bunker by the Chinese army in the finger area along the Pangong Tso lake and three reported transgressions in the Galwan region have raised concerns as the standoff between Indian and Chinese troops continues at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The developments at the Line of Control with Pakistan and Islamabad’s recent moves in PoK have also been monitored closely by the security establishment for the possible link with the recent developments at the Chinese border.
Experts tracking these developments say that these developments can hardly be treated as isolated incidents or coincidence, while troops maintain extra vigil on all borders to counter any co-ordinated move.
Galwan sector in Ladakh continues to remain tense after additional heavy vehicles were spotted in the region, sources in the security establishment said, ET reported.
It is said that now there are three transgression points by People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops in the region, Patrol Point 14 and near the strategic Gogra post being two of them.
Reports on the recent developments suggest that around 500 Chinese soldiers are present at each of these spots that happen to be within Indian territory.
The PLA deployment has been countered by the Indian Army that has moved additional troops in the same areas.
Recent reports also suggest possible construction of bunker by the Chinese army in the finger area along the Pangong Tso lake. The finger area largely consists of mountainous spurs along the lake that have been contested by both sides.
While Indian troops have been patrolling the area up to Fingers 5 and 8 for years, the Chinese army patrol the region up to finger 3. The Chinese side, in a change in ground position, now seems to be constructing a bunker between Fingers 3 and 4, which consequently will stop access to the Indian side to the rest of the area. The PLA has also taken position on the mountainous spurs. In addition to that, Chinese boats have increased the patrolling in recent weeks shows an aggression by neighbour China along the border.
Defense experts believe that the excessive cross-border firing at the LoC, surge in terror attacks in the valley, and transgression across the LAC are all linked.
