Mr Sisodia, calling it “Deshbhakti (patriotism) budget”, told the assembly: “It makes me extremely proud that I am presenting this budget as the country celebrates its 75th year of independence”. Starting Friday, the national capital will see 75-week long celebrations till August 15 to mark 75th Independence Day, the 49-year-old AAP leader said. While ₹ 9,934 crore-health budget has been allocated amid fight against Covid, one fourth of ₹ 69,000 crore budget has been marked for the education sector. Manish Sisodia said that the AAP government intends to increase Delhi’s per capita income to the level of Singapore by 2047.
Mr Sisodia said that as Delhi celebrates India’s 75th Independence Day, ₹ 45 crore will be allocated to install national flag at 500 places. ₹ 10 crore for programmes on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh’s life and ₹ 26 crore for families of freedom fighters were also part of the announcements today.
Credited for its education reforms, the AAP government has allocated ₹ 16,377 crore for the education sector this year. In his 1.5 hour-long speech, Mr Sisodiya said that virtual model schools will be set up in the city, Mr Sisodia said today. “Sitting in any corner of the world, you can take advantage of Delhi’s education facilities. This will be world’s first school not confined by four walls,” the deputy CM said.
As part of ₹ 50 crore- scheme “Aam Aadmi Nishulk COVID Vaccine Yojana’, free vaccines will be given at government’s hospitals “There are many who everyday have to think if they should spend money to get ration or vaccine. In the 75th year of Independence, this question should not arise. So, we have decided that vaccines at government hospitals will continue to be given for free to people,” Mr Sisodia added.
To ensure health access for every woman, special women-only clinics or “Mahila Mohalla Clinics” will be set up in Delhi from next year.
Rs 1,293 crore has been set aside for expansion of healthcare services, including opening new hospitals, renovating old ones and augmenting beds.
