Farmers’ Protest Day 10: Another Round of Talks Between Protesters and Government Today

The fourth round of talks between the farmers and the Centre on Thursday lasted for 7 hours. After that it was clear that the movement would not stop

 

New Delhi| Demonstrations of farmers against agricultural laws continue for the 10th day. There will be a 5th round of talks between representatives of the government and farmers’ organizations from 2 o’clock this afternoon. Earlier on Friday, farmers said that if the law is not withdrawn, they will announce a Bharat Bandh on 8 December. Farmers have also warned of occupying of all toll plazas.

After the farmers’ meeting on Friday, their leader Harvinder Singh Lakhwal said – “In the coming days, the remaining roads of Delhi will also be blocked.” Farmers’ organizations have already said that on Saturday, December 5, the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be burnt.

 

More than 170 farmers sick, not ready for corona test

More than 170 farmers agitating along the Tikri-Kundli border are suffering from fever and cough. Thousands of farmers are taking medicines in the camps here. Despite the appeal, farmers are not getting the corona test done. Three farmers have died. Maham MLA Balraj Kundu, who came to support, turned out to be Coronavirus positive. Rakesh Bains, spokesperson of Haryana BKU, said that he is appealing to the farmers to get medicines after checkup as soon as their health deteriorates. About one thousand farmers have taken medicines.

 

Center agrees on reforms, farmers insists on withdrawal

The fourth round of talks between the farmers and the Centre on Thursday lasted for 7 hours. After that it was clear that the movement would not stop. Darshanpal, the leader of the Krantikari Kisaan Sanghatan, said that the Center agrees on some reforms in laws, but not us. “We have told them that there is a flaw in the entire law. So, they should be taken back,” he said.

On 1 December, there were two and a half hours of interaction between the Centre and the farmers in 2 phases. The government gave a presentation in front of farmer representatives on the Minimum Support Prize (MSP). It was proposed to them that a committee should be formed to discuss new laws. But it did not work. The farmers rejected this offer outright.

Appeal in Supreme Court to remove farmers

Petitioner said that the farmers should be directed to immediately withdraw from the borders of Delhi, because the risk of corona may increase due to the protesters. Petitioner’s lawyer Om Prakash Parihar gave this information. However, the day of hearing on this application has not been set.

Award being returned in support of farmers

The process of returning the award in support of farmers continued on Friday for the second day. Writer Dr. Mohanjeet, thinker Dr. Jaswinder and journalist Swarajbir returned their Sahitya Academy Awards. On Thursday, former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal returned his Padma Vibhushan Award. Apart from him, Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa had announced to return his Padma Bhushan.
