Farmers’ Protests: Ex-Punjab CM and Akali Dal Leader Prakash Singh Badal Returns Padma Vibhushan

The Akali Dal had been with the NDA for 22 years but had split from the NDA two months earlier in protest against agricultural laws.

 

New Delhi| Today is the eighth day of the farmers’ agitation on the Delhi-Haryana border in protest against agricultural laws. Former Punjab CM and Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal (92) has returned the Padma Vibhushan in support of the farmers. Badal received the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. The Akali Dal had been with the NDA for 22 years but had split from the NDA two months earlier in protest against agricultural laws.

Meanwhile, 40 farmers leaders are in talks with the government at Vigyan Bhavan. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar is presiding on behalf of the government. Before the meeting, Tomar said that discussions with farmers will yield positive results.

On the other hand, after meeting Home Minister Amit Shah, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said that he has appealed to the Home Minister to resolve the problems of farmers soon. The economy of Punjab and the security of the country are being affected by this issue. The farmers have also appealed to resolve the matter soon.

At the same time, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Prakash are also present in the meeting with the farmers. Before the meeting, Som Prakash had said that such a solution is expected to come out of the negotiations, which is also acceptable to the farmers and the government. The government has said that the system of MSP will continue and it has also agreed to give it in writing.
