Gauri Lankesh murder case: Special Investigation Team takes second accused into custody

According to reports, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police has made a breakthrough in the Gauri Lankesh murder case by nabbing another suspect. SIT has achieved another breakthrough by taking into custody Praveen alias Suchith Kumar, a native of Mangaluru.

His name was revealed while KT Naveen Kumar, the first arrest, was being investigated. Praveen alias Suchith Kumar was previously arrested for an alleged involvement in an Arms Act case.

Sources said that Praveen was taken into SIT custody after obtaining a body warrant from the court concerned, around two weeks ago.

On March 9, six months after the murder of Gauri Lankesh, the Karnataka police arrested alleged gunrunner Naveen Kumar. He was taken into police custody on March 2 for interrogation in connection with the case.

“It is established that Praveen, along with Naveen, had done reconnaissance near Gauri Lankesh’s house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar several times and had shared details with the shooters about entry and exit routes, without being captured by CCTV cameras. We are questioning him to know about the other persons involved in the murder plot,” an official said.

55-year-old anti-establishment voice, Gauri Lankesh, was shot dead by unknown assailants at her Bengaluru home on September 5, 2017.
