IMA Demands Action Against Baba Ramdev After He Blames Allopathy For COVID-19 Deaths

In a statement issued on Sunday by the General Secretary of Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust, Acharya Balakrishna said that Ramdev was merely reading out a WhatsApp forward received by him while adding that a “truncated version of the video” that has gone viral is totally out of context.

The Indian Medical Association on Saturday demanded the Union Health Ministry to take against Patanjali head and yoga guru Baba Ramdev for “vitriolic accusations” against allopathy where he allegedly described it as a “stupid science” and stated that “lakhs of [Covid] patients have died after taking allopathic medicines.”

Reading from his mobile in a video that has now gone viral on social media, Ramdev can be heard saying, “Allopathy is such a stupid science that first chloroquine failed; then Remdesivir failed; then anti-biotics failed; then steroids failed; then plasma therapy was banned.”

“When such idolized personal are making vitriolic comments, questioning the authority and integrity of the whole architecture of health ministry, the health minister, who himself is a practicing modern medicine allopathic postgraduate and the head of this ministry, should either accept the challenge and accusation of this gentleman and dissolve the modern medical facility or boldly face and prosecute the person for his words of arson on the sovereignty of the country and book him under the Epidemic Diseases Act to save millions of people from such unscientific utterances,” IMA wrote in its press release.

IMA demanded that Ramdev be prosecuted for causing danger to the life of many by advising them not to take the advice of allopathic doctors.

“If the minister [Harsh Vardhan] does not take suo moto action, we will be forced to resort to democratic means of struggle to propagate the truth to the common man. We will knock at the doors of the judiciary to get due justice,” the statement read.

The apex body of doctors has sent a legal notice to Ramdev asking for a ‘written apology’ and ‘recall of statements’.

“Swami ji has no ill-will against modern science and good practitioners of modern medicine. What is being attributed to him is false and nugatory.” said the statement by Patanjali Trust.
