India-China Border Clash: Joint Secretary Level Talks Likely Today

Army Chief General MM General Naravane arrived in Ladakh on Tuesday. He met the soldiers wounded in the clash with China.

 

New Delhi| To reduce the tension between India and China, a joint secretary level meeting can be held today between the two countries. If the meeting is held, it would be the first diplomatic discussion after the Galwan face-off that left 20 Indian soldiers including a commanding officer dead. Till now, there was talk between the army officers of the two countries.

Earlier on Monday, a meeting of Lieutenant General Level was held in Moldo, in Chinese side of Chushul sector. The meeting that began at 11.30 AM went on till late evening. After this, on Tuesday, the Indian Army said that it was agreed to keep peace on both sides of LAC. It was decided that both countries will withdraw their troops from the confrontational sites in eastern Ladakh.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar joined the RIC (Russia-India-China) conference on Tuesday through video conferencing. In the presence of the Chinese Foreign Minister, he said – “This meeting reiterates our confidence in the principles of international relations.” Respect for international law and promoting the interests of all is the only way to create a stable system.” Though he didn’t name China in the address, it was in response to recent border clash.

On June 15, India-China troops clashed in the Galwan valley of Ladakh. 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in this. According to several estimates 40 Chinese soldiers were also killed. China on Tuesday denied the reports that 40 of its soldiers were killed in the clash.
