Over 1,000 people have died due to COVID-19 in India and more than 31,000 cases have been recorded in the country so far, as per the government.
New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 31,332, including 7,695 cured/discharged/migrated and 1,007 deaths as India steps in the final days of the 40-day lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.
73 people have died in the last 24 hours, recording the biggest jump in the number of deaths in a day.
1,897 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past 24 hours.
The total number of cases in Maharashtra– the worst affected state by the virus, has climbed to 9,318 with 400 deaths.
Mumbai figures also touched a 6,000-mark yesterday.
Follows Gujarat with 3,744 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, second highest in the country.
Across the country, as 7,696 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 24.56 per cent this morning.
A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases reached 3,116,992 while the death toll crossed 217,183, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
