IPL delay is likely to be extended amid the coronavirus. The BCCI will decide if it should be called off in case the crisis deepens in India.
New Delhi| The Indian Premier League (IPL) has already been delayed till 15th April post it’s originally scheduled date of 29th March. Now the delay is likely to be extended further. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to take a decision at the end of March.
BCCI is also considering the possibility of organizing a short version of the original tournament at the year-end, reported India Today. The decision on the glamourous and wealthy franchise tournament will be taken at the end of March month.
The majority of sporting events in India have been suspended or postponed in light of the outbreak of coronavirus. On Monday, the count of coronavirus cases in India reached 427, it’s the highest spike in 24 hours.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the BCCI will review the situation every week and will decide the fate of IPL bases on that.

ANI reported in last week that the fate of tournament will be decided on a conference call on 24the March between board and franchise owners.
BCCI source told to ANI news agency, “BCCI and IPL franchise to have a conference call on coming Tuesday to discuss the process and further way of IPL 2020. BCCI office has closed so no meeting can be held there similarly no meeting can be held in the hotel so they have opted conference call.”
The Indian Sports Ministry, on the other hand, has stated that the decision on the IPL will be taken only when the Government comes out with fresh advisory on April 15.
