Jammu | Major Shashidharan Nair was a brave soldier who was martyred last Friday in a blast along the Line Of Control, along with his rifleman Jiwan Gurung. For a mundane, he was just another fighter who died defending the country, but for Trupti Nair, her whole world spun upside down.
Major Nair and Trupti met through a mutual friend six years ago, and they have been in love ever since. Shashidharan was a 26-year-old captain when he met Trupti who has a Masters in Computer Application. Soon after six months, they were engaged, ready to get married.
However, they had their own rough sails. Trupti was perfectly healthy but her condition deteriorated after the engagement until she developed severe complications and got paralyzed waist down, permanently. Everyone around Nair including peers and family started opposing the marriage. But Nair was determined that he would marry Trupti, no matter what her condition is. Major Nair honoured his promise to Trupti despite many dissuading him. Mr and Mrs Nair were soon happily married. Content with their lives, Nair would spend his time with her as much as he could. He took his lady in the wheelchair to all of his official and non-official functions, parties oblivious to the societal judgements.
A while into the marriage and he got posted to Kashmir, and despite his fears for Trupti, he went on about to carry his duty, never to return back.
