The Air India said it was alarming that their crew members are being ostracized by vigilante Resident Welfare associations and neighbours.
Mumbai| Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday applauded the efforts of the Air India crew for evacuating Indian nationals from countries hit by Covid-19. The message came a day after the airlines complained about the ill-treatment the crew has been receiving in their neighborhoods after performing their duty.
In a Press release by Air India on Sunday, the airline said it was alarming that their crew members are being ostracized by vigilante Resident Welfare associations and neighbours. They are facing this harassment because they traveled to evacuate Indians stuck in other countries with an outbreak of coronavirus.

The Prime Minister tweeted on Tuesday, “Extremely proud of this team of @airindiain, which has shown utmost courage and risen to the call of humanity. Their outstanding efforts are admired by several people across India. #IndiaFightsCorona.”
He shared the tweet of Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in which Puri had said, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going,” with a picture of the crew of Air India Boeing 777 headed by Captain Swati Raval and Captain Raja Chauhan who airlifted 263 Indians, mostly students, stranded in Rome.
Not just Rome, Air India also evacuated Indians stuck in Milan last week. It was also among the very few airlines to airlift nationals from Wuhan, the epicenter of coronavirus outbreak.
In its press release, the Air India has expressed the dismay over the treatment it’s crew is receiving from the neighbours and vigilante Resident Welfare Associations. Air India also clarified that it is ensuring every safety for their crew who are involved in the operations of evacuating Indians. The crew after performing their operations and crossing every safety check are advised home quarantine. That is when neighbours and other vigilante associations are harassing them because they have traveled abroad to evacuate people.
