NIA Raids 14 Locations In Jammu and Kashmir In Terror Funding Case

Earlier, the CBI had conducted large-scale raids in Jammu and Kashmir in the Gun License Scam. It is believed to be India’s biggest gun license scam.

 

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided 14 places in valley on Saturday. This includes Shopian, Anantnag, Banihal and Sunjwan in the Kashmir Valley and many areas of Jammu. This raid of NIA is going on in connection with two cases. In one case, IED was recovered in Jammu on June 27. Whereas, the second raid, is said to be related to the Lashkar-e-Mustafa case. Earlier, the CBI had conducted large-scale raids in Jammu and Kashmir in the Gun License Scam. In the biggest crackdown against the Gun License scam, many big officers of the erstwhile state including many IAS officers were raided.

Earlier, in Jammu and Kashmir, the investigating agency had taken major action against terrorist funding on July 11. A terror funding case related to radicalization was registered after which NIA came into action. A search operation was launched in Jammu and Kashmir. This case is also related to online extremism. According to reports, the agency believed some foreign elements could also be involved in it. Along with the NIA, the Intelligence Bureau, RAW and Jammu and Kashmir Police were also involved in this search operation in Srinagar and the Baramulla and Anantnag districts of the Union Territory.

On July 24, the CBI had raided 22 locations, including the residence of senior IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir Shahid Iqbal Choudhary in Srinagar, in connection with the illegal sale of gun licenses. Choudhary is currently the Secretary, Tribal Affairs and CEO of Mission Youth in Jammu and Kashmir. He has also served as the Deputy Commissioner of Kathua, Reasi, Rajouri and Udhampur districts.

It is alleged that he issued thousands of licenses in fake names to the people of all the states and union territories. According to the information, more than two lakh gun licenses have been issued illegally from Jammu and Kashmir since the year 2012. It is believed to be India’s biggest gun license scam.
