Patiala HC frames charges against AAP MLA Somnath Bharti over 2014 Khidki extension raid

New Delhi | Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Tuesday framed charges against former Delhi Minister and AAP MLA Somnath Bharti over the 2014 midnight raid in Khirki extension.

Earlier the Delhi Court had ordered the framing of charges against Somnath Bharti under sections 147/149 rioting, 354 (molestation), 354C (voyeurism), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (outraging woman’s modesty) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the IPC.

The Court has fixed 4th and 7th September for the recording of the statements of witnesses.

Earlier on January 18 2014, the police lodged an FIR in the case on the court’s direction after a Ugandan woman filed a plea after Bharti had allegedly assaulted Ugandan woman in a South Delhi. The court had asked what official duty prompted the AAP leader to assault helpless African women.

According to the charge sheet, on the intervening night of January 15-16, 2014, Bharti and 16 others reached Khirki Extension, Malviya Nagar and allegedly assaulted Ugandan women living in rented accommodation there.
