PM Modi Likely To Address Guru Nanak Guruparab Celebrations In Gujarat Tomorrow

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Gurpurab celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, at Lakhpat Sahib gurdwara in Kutch, Gujarat on Saturday via video conferencing, his office said.

Every year from December 23 to December 25, Sikhs in Gujarat celebrate the Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Lakhpat Sahib gurdwara, it said, noting that the first Sikh guru had stayed at Lakhpat during the course of his travels.

Lakhpat Sahib gurdwara has his relics, including wooden footwear and palkhi (cradle) as well as manuscripts and markings scripts of Gurmukhi.

The PM’s Office noted that the gurudwara had suffered damage during the 2001 earthquake, and PM Modi, the then Chief Minister, had undertaken urgent measures to ensure its repair.

“This step showed the deep reverence of the Prime Minister for the faith, as also reflected in multiple recent endeavours, including the celebrations of 550th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, 350th Parkash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and 400th Parkash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur,” the PM’s Office said.

After Dig At Party, Harish Rawat’s New Tune, “Congress Ke Geet Gaaye Jaa”

Ashmita Chhabria

Haridwar: After Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat ahead of assembly elections in the state, took a swipe “lack of cooperation” from the state unit, and spoke of being a party loyalist who has devoted his life to the welfare of the state.

“Kadam kadam badhae jaa, Congress ke geet gae jaa. Zingadi hai Uttarakhand ke vaaste. Uttarakhand par lutae jaa (Keep on marching forward, sing songs of the Congress, devote life to Uttarakhand),” Mr Rawat said.

Rawat, who left for Delhi to meet the party leadership, also met with his supporters in Haridwar at an event and paid tributes to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary.

Rawat on Wednesday took a dig at the Congress Leadership, saying the “nominees of those whose directions one has to swim (in the electoral battle) are tying my hands and feet”.

In tweets, Rawat expressed worries at factionalism in the state unit, saying there was “non-cooperation” from the party in the state at most places. He said a thought has been crossing his mind that “it is time to rest”.

Rawat, a member of the Congress Working Committee, is seen as the party’s face for the elections in Uttarakhand.

“Isn’t it strange, one has to swim in the sea in the form of the forthcoming electoral battle, instead of cooperation? The organisational structure at most places is turning its face away or is playing a negative role,” Mr Rawat tweeted.

“There are many crocodiles of the ruling dispensation. On whose directions one has to swim, their nominees are tying my hands and feet,” he added.

Captain Amarinder Singh, who resigned as Punjab Chief Minister earlier this year and floated his own party, took a dig at Mr Rawat over his tweets. “You reap what you sow! All the best for your future endeavours (if there are any) @harishrawatcmukji,” he tweet.

Congress leader Manish Tewari also took a swipe at Mr Rawat, who was party in-charge of both Punjab and Assam, over the way matters were being held in poll-bound Uttarakhand. Mr Rawat resigned as Assam in-charge of Congress after the party’s poor performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
