Prasar Bharati Decides To Discontinue PTI Services, Invites Fresh Bids From “Domestic News Agencies” : Report

Prasar Bharati and PTI had ad hoc arrangement of payment and services since 2006 when the formal contract between the two came to an end.

 

New Delhi| Months after threatening to cut ties with news agency PTI, India’s national public broadcaster finally decided to do so. Not only PTI, the national broadcaster also discontinues wire services of UNI (United News of India). Prasar Bharati has now called for fresh bids from domestic news agencies, Hindustan Times Reported.

The report quoted person aware of the development as saying, “In a meeting on Thursday, it was decided that fresh contracts would be signed with news agencies. PTI and UNI can also participate in these bids… Prasar Bharati has now decided to call for fresh proposals for a digital subscription to English text and related multimedia services from all domestic news agencies.”

Earlier in the month of June, Prasar Bharati miffed with PTI’s interview with Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong, had threatened to discontinue the services. The interview had come on the heels of Galwan clash in which 20 Indian soldiers were martyred.
