Prasar Bharati Threatens To Terminate PTI Contract For “Anti-National” Reporting On India-China Tensions

Reportedly, Prasar Bharati in the letter also alleged that the recent news carried by PTI were detrimental to India’s national interest.

 

New Delhi| Upset with the reporting of news agency Press Trust of India over India-China tensions, state-owned broadcaster Prasar Bharati has threatened to terminate the contract with it, reports said. Reportedly, Prasar Bharati has sent a strong-worded letter to PTI warning it of ending ties.

The move comes days after the news agency interviewed the Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong who said the responsibility of reducing the border tension lies with India. The interview was conducted after 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in a violent face-off in Galwan valley.

PTI had yesterday also interviewed Sun’s Indian Counterpart, Vikram Misri. Misri in his statement said that China is responsible for the border tensions. He had also said that if China tries to change or alter the status quo at LAC, there will be Ripples and repercussions.

As per a New Indian Express Report, Prasar Bharati sent a strongly worded letter to PTI ahead of its board meeting on Saturday. The letter expressed “deep displeasure on “anti-national” reporting by PTI. The public broadcaster has communicated that the PTI’s editorial stance makes it untenable to “continue relationship”, the report said.

The state broadcaster in the letter also alleged that the recent news carried by PTI were detrimental to India’s national interest and may have undermined the country’s territorial integrity.

Government sources claim that PTI has been receiving crores of rupees from Prasar Bharati in the form of fees for decades. According to sources, PTI has been insisting on its review since 2016-17.
