Prashant Bhushan, former IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan & National Herald journalist, Ashlin Mathew are booked for tweeting on epics Ramayana & Mahabharata.
Rajkot| Prashant Bhushan was charged for allegedly tweeting in an offensive way against the Ramayana while Kannan Gopinathan and news editor of National Herald, Ashlin Mathew, were booked by retweeting the post by Bhushan.
The FIR states that they retweeted or tweeted a post on March 28 that allegedly āinsulted a religion with an intention to create fear or alarm among peopleā.
Ex IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan and Journalist Ashlin Mathew were also booked for using government orders on social media to mislead people.
The FIR was filed at Bhaktinagar police station of Rajkot city on Sunday evening. Later, the investigation was transferred to the special operations group (SOG).
During the COVID-19 Pandemic lockdown, Doordarshan TV Channel decided to re-telecast the epic shows Ramayana and Mahabharata. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted a picture of him watching the show. Prashant Bhushan had slammed the minister on this tweet for ignoring the migrant labourers.

The tweet by the minister is now deleted.

A retired army captain, Jaydev Bhai Joshi, registered a complaint against Prashant Bhushan for using the word opium with the epics.
The tweet of Prashant Bhushan was allegedly retweeted by Kannan Gopinathan and Ashlin Mathew, as per the First Information Report.
