Ramzan ceasefire will not be extended, confirms centre

Rajnath Singh

In a tweet, Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh has announced that the centre has decided not to extend the suspension of operations or (SoO) or ‘cease-ops’ in J&K announced at the beginning of Ramzan.

“On 17th May 2018, GoI took the decision that Security Forces will not conduct offensive operations in J&K during the holy month of Ramzan. This decision was taken in the interests of the peace loving people of J&K, in order to provide them a conducive atmosphere to observe Ramzan,” Singh said.

“While the Security Forces have displayed exemplary restraint during this period, the terrorists have continued with their attacks, on civilians and SFs, resulting in deaths and injuries,” he added.

The government has also revealed a data, that showed 65 incidents of stone-pelting were reported from May 16 to June 16, 2018. In comparison, 31 incidents were reported in January, 45 in February, 79 in March and 169 in April when the SoO was not in place.

Therefore, he said, “the Security Forces are being directed to take all necessary actions as earlier to prevent terrorists from launching attacks and indulging in violence and killings.”

The Centre had decided to impose a SoO following reports from the Centre’s Special Representative Dineshwar Sharma that killings and encounters were not yielding the desired results and the emotional upsurge at funerals of militants killed in encounters was aiding recruitment by terror outfits.

Congress thanks SC for upholding the rule of law in Karnataka : Gulam Nabi Azad

TestHostEntry

Bengaluru: The Congress Party on Friday thanked the Supreme Court for its order of conducting the floor test before Saturday 4 p.m in the Karnataka assembly.

Addressing the press conference, senior Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad said,”On behalf of the Congress Party, I would like to thank the Honorable judges of the Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law.”

Azad criticized governor Vajubhai Vala decision for allowing BJP to stake the claim to form the government in Karnataka.”Some Governors, appointed by BJP, have not been taking decisions according to the Constitution.”

“We gave the list of all Congress, JD(S) and Independent MLAs to the Governor. But unfortunately, the Governor invited the BJP to form Government,” added the Congress leader.

Commenting on the 15 days time limit allotted to BS Yeddyurappa, the Congress party said: “No Governor in the history of independent India has given anyone 15 days to prove majority.”

Former CM Siddaramaiah who was also present in the press conference told the media “The judgment of the SC is historic. The Governor’s role in the Constitution is very important and he must be unbiased. But in Karnataka, the Governor has taken decisions to favor the BJP.”

Referring to the governor decision during Goa election, Siddaramaiah accused the Karnataka Governor “The Goa precedent was clear. Post-poll alliance enjoying majority should be invited first as per SC. But the Governor didn’t follow due procedure even though we(Congress and JDS) submitted all necessary documents.”

Siddaramaiah further added that “Governor is listening to Shah & Modi instead of following the Constitution. What the Governor did was a murder of democracy. Yeddyurappa had asked for seven days but Governor gave him 15 days to prove majority! It shows clear collusion with BJP.”
