In a tweet, Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh has announced that the centre has decided not to extend the suspension of operations or (SoO) or ‘cease-ops’ in J&K announced at the beginning of Ramzan.
“On 17th May 2018, GoI took the decision that Security Forces will not conduct offensive operations in J&K during the holy month of Ramzan. This decision was taken in the interests of the peace loving people of J&K, in order to provide them a conducive atmosphere to observe Ramzan,” Singh said.
“While the Security Forces have displayed exemplary restraint during this period, the terrorists have continued with their attacks, on civilians and SFs, resulting in deaths and injuries,” he added.
The government has also revealed a data, that showed 65 incidents of stone-pelting were reported from May 16 to June 16, 2018. In comparison, 31 incidents were reported in January, 45 in February, 79 in March and 169 in April when the SoO was not in place.
Therefore, he said, “the Security Forces are being directed to take all necessary actions as earlier to prevent terrorists from launching attacks and indulging in violence and killings.”

The Centre had decided to impose a SoO following reports from the Centre’s Special Representative Dineshwar Sharma that killings and encounters were not yielding the desired results and the emotional upsurge at funerals of militants killed in encounters was aiding recruitment by terror outfits.
