Sachar Committee chairman Chief Justice Rajinder Sachar passes away

At the age of eighty-seven Sachar was detained by Delhi Police on 16 August 2011 during the India Against Corruption protest.

Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajinder Sachar passed away on Friday at the age of 94.

Justice (Retd.) Sachar was admitted to a private hospital for treatment in New Delhi few days ago.

The cremation will take place at the Electric Crematorium in Lodhi Road, New Delhi at 5:30 pm on Friday.

Justice (Retd.) Sachar served as the Delhi High Court Chief Justice from August 6, 1985 to December 22, 1985.

He was the Chairman of the committee formed in 2005 by former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to prepare a report on the latest social, economic, and educational conditions of the Muslim community of India.

Sachar along with Prashant Bhushan in 2003 challenged the Bjp governments plans to privatise Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.
