SC allows CBI’s appeal against Talwar couple’s acquittal in Arushi-Hemraj murder case

New Delhi | The Supreme Court on Friday accepted the Central Beaure of Investigation (CBI) appeal against the acquittal of Nupur and Rajesh Talwar in the murder case of their daughter Aarushi and servant Hemraj. The Court has also issued a notice to the Talwar couple.

CBI in its petition submitted to the top court said that the decision of the Allahabad Court was wrong on ‘many counts’. The Allahabad High Court in its decision of 12 October 2017 acquitted the Talwar couple from the murder charges citing no evidence were found against the Talwars which make them guilty of the double murders at their home in Noida.

Earlier Talwars served a sentence of 4 years after the CBI court convicted life sentence to the couple in 2013. The couple denied the allegations of the murder and claimed that they are victims of a botched investigation and unfair media coverage.
