Sea Of Red Flags In Kasara Ghat As Thousands March Towards Mumbai To Protest Farm Laws

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, whose party is a member of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government, is expected to attend the rally.

Thousands of farmers, gathered from 21 districts of Maharashtra, gathered at Nashik on Saturday and are marching to cover the 180 kilometres to state capital Mumbai, where they will hold a massive rally Monday at the city’s iconic Azad Maidan.

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, whose party is a member of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government, is expected to attend the rally.

Visuals showed a sea of red flags and banners as thousands of farmers snaked their way through the roads of the Kasara Ghat region between the two cities.

Being members of different small unions and having gathered themselves under the banner of the All India Kisan Sabha, the farmers are expected to reach Mumbai in a few hours.

Earlier this month, Sharad Pawar had referred to the protesting farmers, particularly those who have braved winter chills to remain camped out around Delhi since November, warning the centre of consequences if it failed to understand their sentiments. He had issued a similar warning last month when he said the centre should not test the farmers’ patience.

The rally from Nashik by farmers comes just two days before the highly anticipated and headline-worthy tractor rally in Delhi on Republic Day.

Over a thousand tractors are expected to take part in the rally that will be held along the Ring Road (which encircles the city).
