With hashtag #RippedJeansTwitter, politicians, actresses and activists uploaded their pictures in ripped jeans to convey a message to Mr Rawat.
Soon after newly appointed Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat landed himself in a controversy due to his comments over ‘ripped jeans’, women on Twitter posted pictures of them wearing the ripped jeans, slamming the BJP leader for his misogynistic remarks.
With hashtag #RippedJeansTwitter, politicians, actresses and activists uploaded their pictures in ripped jeans to convey a message to Mr Rawat.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun on Tuesday, Mr Rawat had said he was shocked to see a woman running an NGO in ripped jeans, and was concerned about the example she was setting for society.
“If this kind of woman goes out in the society to meet people and solve their problems, what kind of message are we giving out to society, to our kids? It all starts at home. What we do, our kids follow. A child who is taught the right culture at home, no matter how modern he becomes, will never fail in life,” the newly appointed Chief Minister had said.
Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi took to Twitter and posted her picture wearing a ripped jeans.
“Ripped Jeans aur Kitab. The country’s ‘sanskriti’ & ‘sanskaar’ are impacted by men who sit and judge women and their choices. Soch badlo Mukhyamantri Rawat ji, tabhi desh badlega. #RippedJeansTwitter,” Priyanka Chaturvedi said.

Journalist Rohini Singh also responded to the comments made by the Uttarakhand Chief Minister.
“In solidarity with the woman with the two kids trying to get somewhere who bore the brunt of a clearly sleazy man checking her out because she was wearing ripped jeans. #RippedJeansTwitter,” Rohini Singh said.
