Too Little, Too Late? Election Commission Curtails Campaign Period In West Bengal Upto 7 PM

ECI has said that if the Covid-19 rules are violated, strict action will be taken. The Election commission has also warned of a criminal action.

 

Kolkata| The Election Commission has clamped down on the poll campaign during the ongoing assembly elections in West Bengal. The Election Commission has said that candidates will not be able to campaign between 7 pm and 10 am. Also, the silence period has been increased from 48 hours to 72 hours. These guidelines will be applicable to the remaining three phases among the total eight phases of elections. So far, 4 phases of elections have concluded. Votes will be cast for the fifth phase on Saturday.

Candidates and political parties have to follow Covid’s rules wholeheartedly, as directed by the Election Commission. ECI has said that if the rules are violated, strict action will be taken. The Election commission has also warned of a criminal action.

Four phase election still left in Bengal

In West Bengal, on April 17, 45 seats in six districts under the fifth phase will go for polling. On April 22, polling will be conducted on 43 seats in four districts under the sixth phase. On April 26, as many as 36 seats in five districts will cast votes under the seventh phase and 35 in four districts under the eighth phase will go to polls on April 29. The votes will be counted on May 2.
