“Due to an inadvertent error, we temporarily locked this account under our global copyright policies. This decision was reversed immediately and the account is fully functional,” said a Twitter spokesperson on why the picture was removed.
The photographer, according to Twitter’s copyright norms, has copyright over an image and not the subject.
However, the removal of the union home minister’s picture triggered immediate reactions on Twitter. Considered the number two leader in Modi government, Mr Shah has over 23 million followers on Twitter and follows 296 people himself.
The centre, on the other hand, has issued a notice to Twitter seeking an explanation for showing the district of Leh as part of Jammu and Kashmir and not of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Over the issue of disrespecting the territorial integrity of India by showing an incorrect map, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has given five days to Twitter to explain why legal action should not be initiated against it.
