“Elections are underway here and he (PM) goes to Bangladesh and lectures on Bengal,” she was quoted as saying by ANI.
In West Bengal, voting for the first phase will be held today. According to the Election Commission, there are 191 candidates in the fray for the 30 assembly constituencies going to polls in Phase-I in West Bengal. There are a total of 294 seats in the West Bengal assembly which will go to polls in eight phases starting today.
In the 2016 assembly polls, Mamata Banerjee-led TMC had won 27 of the 30 seats while Congress had won just two. The high octane campaign saw BJP locking horns with ruling TMC. Facing anti-incumbency, the TMC saw many key leaders deserting the party and joining the BJP. This also included several sitting ministers and Mamata Banerjee’s close confidante Suvendu Adhikari.
The campaign was also marked with political violence in different parts of the state.
