Lucknow| Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that being infected with a virus is not a crime but to hide it is definitely one while holding Tablighi Jamaat attendees responsible for the spread of novel coronavirus.

Yogi Adityanath said action would be taken against them for the “crime”.

“To get a disease is not a crime but to hide a disease which is infectious is definitely a crime. And this crime has been done by those associated with the Tablighi Jamaat,” Adityanath said while speaking to a television channel on Saturday.

UP Chief Minister said: “In UP and other places where the spread of the novel coronavirus has been seen, Tablighi Jamaat is behind it. Had they not hidden the disease and went about like its carriers, then perhaps we would have controlled the coronavirus outbreak to a large extend.”

Between March 13 and 24, at least 16,500 people visited Jamaat’s headquarters in Nizamuddin, as per a Delhi police report that has been compiled after the biggest exercise the force has ever undertaken.

A Tablighi Jamaat gathering held in mid-March in Delhi”s Nizamuddin area highly contributed to the doubling of novel coronavirus cases in India at that point.
