Andhra Govt Pauses SIT Investigation In Tirupati Laddu Case Until SC Hearing

The development comes a day after the top court pulled up the Andhra Pradesh government for going public with its claim that animal fat was allegedly used in making Tirupati laddus without conclusive proof.

The Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government has paused the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation into the alleged adulteration of animal fat ghee used to make Tirupati laddus until the next Supreme Court hearing on October 3.

The development comes a day after the top court pulled up the Andhra Pradesh government for going public with its claim that animal fat was allegedly used in making Tirupati laddus without conclusive proof.

“We have stopped the probe for the time being in view of the ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court. Our team has conducted various inspections, recorded statements of a few people, and done a preliminary investigation.” Andhra’s top cop, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, was quoted by the media.

An FIR was filed in the case on September 25, and the SIT was constituted on September 26 to probe the matter.

On Monday, the Supreme Court questioned Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s claim that animal fat was used in making Tirupati laddus, stating that at least the Gods should be kept out of politics. The court sought proof of the claim and noted that the chief minister made the statement on September 18, despite the FIR being lodged on September 25 and a special investigation team being formed on September 26.
