E-double decker bus launched in Mumbai
The company has also confirmed that it has already received an order for 200 electric double decker buses from Mumbaiโ€™s BEST.

Mumbai: Switch Mobilityโ€™s first electric double-decker bus in India was formally unveiled on Thursday in Mumbai. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari unveiled the bus. The bus will be included in the BEST project since the public transportation provider wants to install a lot of electric double-decker buses.

The bus is the first double-decker, standard floor, air-conditioned vehicle in the world with a back stairway and a bigger door on the overhang. The double-decker delivers a higher passenger-to-weight ratio and a reasonable cost per km, per passenger, thanks to its lightweight aluminium body design.

Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari said, โ€œThere is a need to transform the countryโ€™s transport system from a long-term perspective. With focus on reforming urban transport, we are trying to build a low footprint and high passenger density integrated EV mobility ecosystem. The governmentโ€™s vision and policies are supportive towards EV adoption with growing consumer demand for greener solutions. I would like to congratulate Switch Mobility, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, for being the one to revive the double-decker and remain committed to introducing new technologies for the benefit of passengers and society, at large.โ€

Switch India has already secured an order of 200 electric double decker buses in Mumbai and is looking at a dominant space in the electric double decker segment, across key regions in the country.

Bus components are manufactured in India.
