The budget session for the year 2025 kicked off today. But what caused trouble was Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s statement while talking to the media.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan reacted to Sonia’s ‘poor thing’ remark. The president’s house said the comments by the congress MP were in “Poor taste” and “Very unfortunate”.

This comes after Sonia Gandhi said, “The president was getting very tired by the end…She could hardly speak, poor thing.” Netizens are calling these remarks an insult to the Indian president.
Well, as if this weren’t enough, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Lok Sabha opposition, called the president boring.
Following President Murmu’s joint address, Rahul Gandhi, talking to his mother on camera, called the president’s speech ‘boring’. He said, ‘She was repeating the same things again and again.’

Gandhi’s mocking of the president by calling her a poor lady and boring has caused quite a stir. The video of the incident is being widely circulated on social media platforms, criticising Gandhi’s statement.
President Droupadi Muri addressed the first day of the budget session.
The president started her speech by paying tribute to the devotees who lost their lives during the massive stampede in Mahakumbh.

She said, “Mahakumbh is a festival of India’s cultural identity and social enlightenment. Crores of devotees have already taken the holy dip. I express grief over the incident that occurred on Mauni Amavasya and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured”
She further paid tribute to former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away in December.
During her address, Murmu said that the government is working on the path towards modernization.

She listed the landmark achievements of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government. Particularly focusing on tribal welfare, youth employment, healthcare, and women’s empowerment.
In her address to the joint session of both houses of parliament, President Murmu discussed the central government’s initiative for women’s development. She emphasized the ‘nari shakti vandan adhiniyam’, which ensures women’s reservation in legislatures.

Her speech also highlighted the ‘Lakhpati didi’ initiative: “Today, over 1.15 crore lakhpati didis are leading dignified lives, with about 50 lakh joining this category in just the past six months. ”
She even highlighted the key initiatives implemented to improve the lives of citizens. And the country’s progress in digital technology, infrastructure, education, health, employment, and national security.

She said: “My government is infusing new energy through unprecedented achievements in this Amrit Kaal of India’s development journey. The pace of work has tripled in this third term. Today, the nation is witnessing major decisions and policies being implemented at an extraordinary speed, with the highest priority given to the poor, the middle class, the youth, women, and farmers.”
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the economic survey today. She will present the union budget tomorrow.

The economic survey is a pre-budget document detailing the state of the economy over the last fiscal year. The survey says that an analysis of national income data reveals that all sectors are performing well.
According to the economic survey, real GDP growth in FY26 is expected to be between 6.3 and 6.8 per cent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media outside the parliament ahead of the budget session. PM Modi took a jibe at the opposition Congress party. He said this was the first time in 10 years there had been no foreign before the start of a session.

He said, and I quote, “You must have noticed, since 2014, this is the first parliament session in which there has been no ‘videshi chingari’ (foreign interference) in our affairs, in which no foreign forces tried to ignite a fire.”
Furthermore, the BJP condemned Sonia Gandhi’s remarks. The BJP said, “This shows the elitist, anti-poor, and anti-tribal nature of the Congress party. Such an insult to the president was unprecedented.”

BJP President JP Nadda, BJP MP Sambit Patra, Assam CM and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rajya Sabha member Rekha Sharma and many others took to social media demanding’ an ‘unconditional apology’ from Congress party and Sonia Gandhi
Following the trouble, Priyanka Gandhi defended their mother, Sonia Gandhi. She said, “My mother didn’t mean any disrespect. She is 78 years old”
