The Centre for Policy Research (CPR), global NGO Oxfam India, and Bengaluru-based Independent and Public-Spirited Media Foundation were also targeted with raids on other premises.

New Delhi: The Income Tax department raided IPSMF, CPR & Oxfam India on Wednesday. DIGIPUB has condemned this raid conducted by the IT department.

They have said that the assault on independent journalism and research continues with IT “surveys” on the Independent and Public-Spirited Media Foundation, Centre for Policy Research and Oxfam. DIGIPUB condemns this repressive trend.

On Wednesday, Congress too slammed the Centre for raiding some Delhi-based think-tanks alleging that it is a deliberate move to exterminate all independent media and voices. Income Tax Department carried out searches at the think tank Centre for Policy Research (CPR).

The Income Tax searches are underway at the Centre for Policy Research office, which describes itself as a public policy think tank and a non-profit, non-partisan, independent institution dedicated to conducting research. Income Tax sources said that the search is being carried out based on “credible information” about tax evasion.

The Centre for Policy Research (CPR), global NGO Oxfam India, and Bengaluru-based Independent and Public-Spirited Media Foundation were also targeted with raids on other premises.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “It’s absolutely atrocious that research & advocacy organisations and independent charitable trusts like CPR, Oxfam, and IPSMF have been raided at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.”

“It’s a deliberate move to exterminate all independent media and voices!” Ramesh said in a video statement.
