First Time In 70 Years, National Parties Decrease From 14 To 6 In Lok Sabha Elections

In 1951, 53 political parties participated in the first Lok Sabha elections. Today, there are over 2,500 parties, but the number of national parties has decreased from 14 to 6 over 70 years. Contesting the upcoming general elections for the 18th Lok Sabha are six national parties. Throughout these decades, political parties have witnessed mergers, the emergence of new players, and the cessation of some. Initially, 53 parties contested the first election, with 14 deemed “national parties” and the others categorized as “state” parties.

Bengaluru: North-Northeast of Karnataka’s Bengaluru was hit with an Earthquake of 3.3 magnitude this morning, informed the National Center for Seismology (NSC). Normal life was not affected by the quake.

The NCS said on Twitter that the quake struck at 7:14am, at a depth of 23 kilometers. “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.3, Occurred on 22-12-2021, 07:14:32 IST, Lat: 13.55 and Long: 77.76, Depth: 23 Km, Location: 66km NNE of Bengaluru, Karnataka,” tweeted NSC.

The epicenter was reported to be 66 kilometers away from the Karnataka capital.
