POSCO Court said that if man fails to pay the fine amount, he will have to spend 3 more years in jail
Kochi: In Kerala a POSCO Court has sentenced a 41-year-old man to 142 years in rigorous imprisonment and has imposed 5 Lakh rupees fine on him for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old. The man assaulted the minor for two years.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) court sentenced the punishment to the man and said that if he is unable to pay the fine, he would have to spend more 3 years in the jail. The district’s maximum sentence for an accused party in a Pocso case is this length of time.
Before this in 2021, Anandan P R alias Babu who was also accused of raping a minor between 2019 and 2021, and sexually assaulting her brutally multiple times in the period of those two years. Babu was a relative and used to stay in the same residence with the child’s parents.

The police officials of Pathanamthitta District said, “In the case where principal Pocso prosecutor advocate Jason Mathews appeared for the prosecution, the witness statements, medical records and evidence were strong in favor of the prosecution. Harilal, who was Tiruvalla police inspector, registered the case and conducted the investigation and filed the charge sheet in court.”
“…a total of 142 years of rigorous imprisonment…and a total of Rs 5 lakh has been imposed on the accused for the offences listed under Pocso,” said the district police.
Last month a special court for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act cases sentenced 13 people including a city police inspector, a BJP functionary, two government servants and a media person to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for forcing a 13-year-old girl into prostitution and raping her. Eight others were sentencedĀ life imprisonment. One of the accused, S Mareeswaran, died during trial.
