MMRDA Inks MoU With River Recycle Oy, Helsinki, Finland

MMRDA and River Recycle Oy (RR), from Helsinki, Finland, signed an MoU at the World Economic Forum, Davos 2024, dedicated to River Protection & Improvement, Flood Protection, Environmental Upgrading, Climate Resilience, and Climate Change Adaptation in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. RR is well-known for its promising and financially sustainable solutions specializing in preventing plastic pollution in oceans.

The collaboration expects to complement MMRDA’s strategic goals of addressing environmental challenges in and around the MMR, elevating the region’s sustainability and tackling climate-related risks.

The areas of cooperation are earmarked by the MoU, promising a wide range of benefits to both sides of the partnership. A vital component of the MoU is sharing best practices to support river protection and improvement, flood protection, rainwater absorption, and climate resilience in the MMR. Moreover, the sharing of expertise extends to enhancing the air quality index and establishing urban sponges in the surrounding regions.

The facilitation of globally recognized practices about promoting circular economy practices like waste-to-energy solutions and efficient waste management will also be one of the gifts to the MMR as a result of this collaboration. The development of Blue & Green infrastructure across the MMR to enforce the improvement of air quality and rainwater absorption will be achieved through this collaboration. Hence, MMRDA’s vision of transforming the MMR into a sustainable metropolis will be catalyzed by this collaboration, bestowing the region and its 30 million residents with substantial economic growth and enhanced quality of life.
