Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the opposition, particularly the Congress, ahead of the upcoming general election, accusing them of lacking the determination to compete and suggesting they will remain in the opposition for the foreseeable future. His remarks came during his response to the Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s recent speech.
Modi expressed frustration when an opposition MP complained about the President’s speech not addressing minorities, questioning, “Women and farmers are not minorities? Till when will you keep dividing society?”. He noted a perceived lack of enthusiasm among the opposition for contesting elections, with some allegedly preferring membership in the Rajya Sabha over the Lok Sabha.
“Congress is caught in cancel culture. If we say Make in India, Congress says cancel; When we say Vocal for Local, Congress says cancel; when we propose Vande Bharat, Congress again says cancel,” PM Modi said in his last speech in the current Lok Sabha.

“I can see many in the opposition have lost hope… strength even to fight elections. I’ve heard many want to go to Rajya Sabha instead of Lok Sabha. The President’s address is, in a way, based on facts and truth… and is a big proof of reality that is presented in front of people,” the Prime Minister said.
