Rajnath Singh’s Directive To Ex-Army Chief On Ladakh Standoff

On August 31, 2020, amid heightened tensions with China in Eastern Ladakh, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh granted then Army Chief Gen MM Naravane “carte blanche” to handle the situation. Singh’s directive, “Jo ucchit samjho woh karo (Do whatever you deem appropriate),” was in response to the Chinese PLA’s movements at Rechin La pass. In his memoir, Naravane describes the weight of responsibility and the critical decision-making process he faced.
