Supreme Court To Examine Governors’ Immunity Provision Under Article 361

On Friday, the Supreme Court agreed to review Article 361 of the Constitution, which provides “blanket immunity” to governors from criminal prosecution. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s bench issued a notice to the West Bengal government following a plea from a woman employee alleging molestation by Governor CV Ananda Bose, questioning the immunity’s validity.
