Citing strong opposition to inviting the congress, Telangana Rashtra Samithi will not attend today’s meeting.
New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee’s meeting inviting top opposition from across the country to discuss the Presidential candidate, to be held today will not feature Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The meeting organised by TMC Head and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to be held today in New Delhi has reportedly invited 22 political parties to strategize a unified stand against the BJP and its allies ahead of the Presidential elections to be held on the 18th next-month.
“There is no question of sharing any platform with the Congress,” said the TRS in a statement.
The invites issued earlier this week will discuss joint plans and potential cross-party ally ship in an attempt to unify against the BJP.
Rao expressed the party’s opposition to congress commenting that, “Rahul Gandhi, in a recent public meeting in Telangana, had targeted the TRS government without any word of criticism against the BJP,”.
NCP leader Sharad Pawar, who has accepted the invite has allegedly reported hesitance in taking up the position as the opposition’s candidate for President, as he believes the BJP has enough support to hijack the position. Banerjee reportedly held a long discussion with Pawar early yesterday.
While the Congress and Left opposition in Bengal has accepted the invite, reports suggest that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik of the BJD will not attend the meeting.
Among leaders who have accepted the invite for the assembly are Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president and Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, CPI’s Binoy Viswam, CPM’s Elamaram Kareem, Former Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy and former PM HD Deve Gowda.
The list further includes DMK’s TR Baalu, Shiv Sena’s Subhash Desai, RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary, Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party’s Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah.
